An Abridged History

It all began on a beautiful summer day in August of 2001 in Potsdam, NY. On this fine day, Glenn and Todd had entirely too much to drink and too little to do… As the conversation progressed (or digressed) they began discussing their high school days and the fun that they had playing guitar in their old bands. Before the afternoon was finished, Illusion was born in a foggy, alcohol-induced haze of heat, barbecue and bocce ball. After a brief discussion the next day, to refresh their memories as to what had been discussed the day before, they decided that even in a sober state, it sounded like a good idea. They began inquiring as to whether a drummer and a bass player could possibly exist who could be talked into getting involved with such a project. In the midst of the search for the perfect drummer and bass player, they decided that they better find themselves a soundman. Todd recruited his cousin, Jason, a long-time fan of good times and good rock and roll. Then one day, from behind the soundboard, Jason asked why Illusion wasn’t playing any .38 Special yet. “We just haven’t gotten around to it yet,” was the reply. Jason said, "We should really do some,” and started singing “If I’d Been the One.” The rest of the band just looked at each other as if to say, “This guy’s not just a soundman any more…” “Can you do that in front of a microphone?” they asked tentatively. “Yeah, I think so… - Why?” And that was the end of that. Illusion had a new singer and keyboard player. Now back to the drummer and bass player – The search continued involving many inquiries and trials. After what seemed like an endless parade of personnel that just didn’t quite fit, they finally found Frank on bass. Now here was a musician who could play bass, guitar, keyboards and sing. What more could they ask for?

Well, how about a drummer? Ahhh, the search has ended. The boys found Rich Merchant. Or maybe Rich found the boys... Either way, he's one of them now! Now they're ready to rock!

Stay tuned - there are more changes on the way for 2005!

Well, 2005 is here - we have taken some time off. We've found a new drummer who also plays some mean bass. Check out Alan Darrah - the man behind the kit!

Now onto 2006... Alan has moved on with his first band, Eloquor. We have found Tim Damon, the man with the black, double-bass drum monster kit! He also makes the finest custom fishing rods available anywhere in the known universe!

The search is on again for a drummer... Could it be you? If so, let us know!
(04/12/06) - We found our new drummer - Chris Vangellow!

07/31/06 - After 5 years of dedicated service, Glenn Scott has decided to retire. His number will be retired and he and Gail will always be a part of the Illusion family. At this time, Illusion will continue on as a 4-piece band but who knows what the future may bring... Any 4- or 5-string players out there looking for a new family? :-)

08/19/06 -We have found our new bass player! We are proud to welcome Mr. Bill Hill to the Illusion family! Those of you who have been following Illusion for a while will have seen him with us before but this time it's for real! Come check it out!

04/2007 - Illusion is proud to announce the addition of our new Sound and Lighting Technician, Mr. Gary Ames.

07/10/2007 - Frank Ashley has decided to move on to other things. Illusion would like to give a big shout of Thanks out to the Beetle and Beetle's Babe (Tammy!!) for 6 great years of great music, great beers, and great fun! Best of luck to you, Beetle! You better join us onstage for "Can't You See" every damn chance you get! Illusion will continue on as a 4-piece band but who knows what the future will bring? Any guitar players (or maybe even a keyboard player!) looking for a new family?

04/2008 - Illusion has decided to return to running sound and lights from the stage. Not to take anything away from Gary - we wish him all the best!
